When Queen Elizabeth II was crowned at Westminster Abbey on 2nd June 1953, crowds filled the streets of London and more than 20 million watched on television worldwide. For seventy years she reigned supreme with an unwavering sense of duty and commitment.
Now, as we say farewell to the longest-serving monarch in British history, Merrythought – Britain’s oldest surviving teddy bear manufacturer – have created a unique commemorative exclusively for Danbury Mint to honour her remarkable reign.
This exquisite bear is made from the finest champagne coloured mohair with wonderful hand-stitched features, sparkling blue eyes and a warm friendly smile – reminiscent of Her Majesty’s. Her soft cream velvet footpads are embroidered in golden thread with the Queen’s royal cypher and finished with Merrythought’s iconic wishbone label carrying the proud boast “Hand-made in England”.
Her luxurious Purple Robe of State is made of rich velvet, edged with white faux fur. Her dazzling crown sparkles with crystals gems and her beautiful coronation gown features emblems of the United Kingdom and Commonwealth.
As befits a bear of such historic importance, the Celebration of a Reign bear will be issued in a strict limited edition. Only 1,953 bears can ever be made for worldwide demand – honouring the date her record-breaking reign began.
