Merrythought – Britain’s oldest surviving teddy bear manufacturer – are paying tribute to Horatio Nelson - the great leader and pivotal figure in Britain’s naval past.

Nelson by Merrythought has been hand-made from the finest biscuit coloured mohair with a wonderful hand-stitched nose and sparkling black boot button eyes. Like all the very best collector bears he’s fully jointed so you can easily change his pose. And, for historical accuracy, the designers at Merrythought have even made him with half an arm, in recognition of Nelson’s losing the lower part of his own right arm.

This very special bear is dressed in Nelson’s distinctive naval uniform. Pinned to his bicorne naval hat is a ‘Chelengk’ – inspired by the Turkish military award given to Nelson for outstanding services to the Ottoman Empire. On his coat is a replica of the Star of the Order of the Bath, awarded to Nelson in 1797 following his victory at the Battle of Cape St. Vincent in the Caribbean.

Like every Merrythought creation, there is nothing mass produced about the Nelson. Each and every bear is individually cut, stitched and filled by hand ensuring that no two bears are ever exactly the same. And through every stage, skilled workers ensure that only perfect bears can carry their prestigious wishbone label with the proud boast “Hand-made in England”!

This special tribute to Lord Nelson will be issued as a strict limited edition. Not only is he available exclusively from Danbury Mint, but only 1,805 bears can ever be produced, in honour of the year of Nelson’s last and most famous triumph, The Battle of Trafalgar.

Actual size of bear is 12" (30cm) standing.
