Monty Python’s Flying Circus is one of the nation’s most loved and cherished comedy sketch shows. 1969 saw the first broadcast of the now iconic show and included in the eighth episode was one of the most brilliant back-and-forth interactions between Michael Palin as the bumbling pet-shop owner and an exasperated Mr Praline, brilliantly played by John Cleese, along with his recently deceased Norwegian Blue parrot.
To honour these icons of comedy, the master craftsmen and women at Steiff have created a very special tribute this most beloved show. Presenting Steiff’s Monty Python: Dead Parrot Teddy – a limited-edition collector bear from the inventors of the teddy.
He is made of genuine mohair – one of the most beautiful and sustainable natural fibres in the world. He is fully jointed and has been designed with flat soles to his feet so he can easily be posed as you wish. Check out the reverse to his handmade waxed cotton jacket – it’s branded with Monty Python’s official logo and his left paw is also adorned with the show’s name.
The highlight of this stunning piece is the humorously situated upside-down ‘ex-parrot’. Just as the famous sketch depicts, he holds his ‘remarkable bird’, the Norwegian Blue in exasperation, protesting that it’s not just ‘resting’ nor ‘pining for the fjords’. It’s an unmistakable and charming tribute to the giants of British mirth.
Naturally, you’ll find the famous Steiff button in his left ear along with a white label with red writing that signifies his special limited-edition status. In honour of the year of the first broadcast, only 1,969 bears can ever be made.
Bear is 11” (28cm) standing.
