The disaster sent shockwaves around the world, and in the weeks that followed the tragedy, Steiff made less than 500 black “mourning bears” exclusively for British customers. Displayed in shops throughout London, they sold very quickly.
Now, inspired by these rare and historic mourning bears, Steiff have created a limited-edition Titanic Legacy Bear complete with a specially commissioned pendant inspired by the ship’s legendary deck bell, around his neck on a red silken ribbon. The design of the brass bell is based on the bell that was mounted on the deck of the ill-fated liner and recovered from the wreck in 1987. It’s engraved with the words “RMS Titanic” and the date “1912”.
The Titanic Legacy Bear is five-way jointed and made with the finest mohair. Like every Steiff masterpiece, is finished with the famous golden ‘button in-ear’ and the white tag with red writing which shows he’s a genuine limited edition.
