First struck in 1997, the original bi-metallic £2 coin was introduced to the UK on 15th June 1998 by the Royal Mint. Since then, it has achieved iconic status and has featured more than 50 memorable designs to celebrate British history and the achievements of its people.
To mark this special 25th anniversary, the master craftsmen at the Royal Mint have struck a brand-new silver proof coin. The coin features Bruce Rushin’s iconic “Technology” design from the very first bi-metallic coin on the reverse, which has been enhanced with a hologram revealing the number ‘25’ within the central cog. The obverse features Jody Clark’s final coinage portrait of Queen Elizabeth II.
Struck in 92.5% sterling silver, this remarkable coin is enhanced by the stunning proof condition. Struck not once, but twice, for superior crispness of design, it is finished with a mirror-like brilliance that makes it stand out among other coins. To ensure it will be treasured for years to come, we have sonically sealed it in a crystal-clear airtight casing for easy and safe viewing. The capsule includes the Danbury Mint hologram, assuring you that your coin is protected by our “Sealed for Good” technology and attesting to its silver proof quality.
The coins is housed in a deluxe wooden display case that is yours at no extra charge. It features a silver-toned lock and key for added security and a sparkling glass top that allows you to admire your coin in all its glory. A Certificate of Authenticity is also included.
