The end of the 19th century and beginning of the 20th century witnessed huge changes for Britain and her people both at home and around the globe. While the British Empire grew to encompass a quarter of the world's population, there were also significant changes to our nation’s currency, not only in the design but also how it was made, with the reduction and eventual withdrawal of silver content.
Now, you have the opportunity to explore the last one hundred years of silver currency that circulated in Britain with this impressive collection brings together 40 different circulating silver coins which were issued during the reigns of Queen Victoria, Edward VII, George V and George VI. From the diminutive threepences to the half-crown, it features every denomination issued for circulation, including the rare fourpence and double florin.
This is a treasure trove of silver content, with all coins from before 1920 minted from 92.5% sterling silver and all coins after minted from 50% silver; a reduction brought on by the economic realities of the First World War. Your collection will also include all three of Queen Victoria’s portraits, released at various stages of her reign, for each denomination where issued: the Young Head, the Jubilee Head and Veiled Head.
The coins are housed in a handsome display case featuring a lock and key. With a glass top for easy viewing this Chest is the perfect way to protect and display your impressive collection! You will also receive a Certificate of Authenticity. Both are included in your third shipment at no extra charge.
