Founded in 1870 as the British National Society for Aid to the Sick and Wounded in War, the British Red Cross Society has focused on providing help to people in crisis, both in the UK and overseas, for over 150 years. In the anniversary year of the British Red Cross, The Royal Mint introduced a commemorative coin to celebrate the historic contributions and ongoing service.

The design by artist Henry Gray cleverly uses vibrant colour detailing to enhance the Red Cross symbol. The current motto of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, ‘PER HUMANITATEM AD PACEM’, which translates to ‘THROUGH HUMANITY TO PEACE’, is included as an edge inscription. The coin is minted in .999 fine silver and struck in stunning proof quality. Proof coins are carefully struck at least twice on highly polished dies and blanks, resulting in flawless coins with razor-sharp detail.

We’ve protectively slabbed and labelled it using our ‘Sealed for Good’ technology, ensuring that it can be treasured for generations. What’s more, you will receive a handsome, custom-crafted wooden case with a lock and key for additional security. This elegant display makes an impressive focal point in any setting and is yours at no additional charge.
