From 1971 to 1976, the U.S. Mint did something it had never done before…and has never done since. For the only time in history, it struck dollar coins in 40% silver. Strangely, these silver coins were made in virtually secret editions — so even the most dedicated of collectors missed out. In fact, the silver coins are among the rarest of all 20th century U.S. coins, as well as one of the shortest-lived series.
This remarkable collection includes both uncirculated and proof condition coins from each year of issue, making it a truly complete 10-coin collection. Highlights include:
- 1971 – the first-year-of-issue coins and the first 40% silver dollars in history.
- 1973 – the rarest proof and uncirculated Eisenhower dollars.
- 1976 – the special bicentennial issues with a one-time-only reverse design; the 1976 coins were also the last 40% silver dollars in history
The collection comes with a deluxe wooden Display Chest and Information Booklet, both of which will be sent at no extra charge with your third shipment.
