It is difficult to imagine modern Britain without the influence of Queen Victoria. Having inherited a throne that was weak and unpopular, Victoria came to be remembered as one of the most important and successful monarchs Britain has ever had. To commemorate the reign of this extraordinary queen, Danbury Mint has put together this spectacular collection of every major denomination of coin minted during Victoria’s reign, from the half farthing to the double florin.
During Queen Victoria’s unprecedented 64 years on the throne, four portraits appeared on her coinage, each capturing the queen at a different stage of her extraordinary life: the Young Head portrait, the Jubilee Head portrait, the Old Head portrait, and the special Gothic portrait.
The collection includes some interesting and valuable coins not often seen by collectors in Britain today. You’ll find the ‘withdrawn’ 1887 silver sixpence, minted for just one year; the double florin, one of the shortest-lived of all British coin denominations; the 1840 silver rupee, minted by the East India Company; and the half farthing, Britain’s smallest legal tender coin. Also included in the collection are three copper coins – a penny, halfpenny and farthing – issued in the early years of Victoria’s reign. They were later replaced by bronze coins.
For stunning display and safe storage, a handsome wooden display chest is included with every collection − at no extra charge! With a polished lock for added security, and a glass top for easy viewing, it’s the perfect way to protect and showcase this impressive collection.
