The legend of Saint George slaying the dragon has been a revered tale in England since the 12th century, many hundreds of years after he’s said to have lived. This has led to depictions of the story appearing on British coins for over two hundred years, most famously Benedetto Pistrucci’s portrayal which has been seen on gold sovereigns since 1817.
Now, Danbury Mint is proud to bring together two of these silver bullion coins featuring the newest portrayals of St. George; a Valiant coin from 2018-2021 and the brand-new silver coin issued in 2024.
The Valiant coin features a design by Etienne Millner, where the beautifully sculptured image is frosted to highlight the bold design. The obverse of the coin features the last portrait of Queen Elizabeth II before her passing in 2022. The 2024 coin sees a dynamic depiction of the tale by artist Jody Clark, which includes the coin’s composition and weight inscription repeated around the edge. Martin Jenning’s portrait of King Charles III adorns the obverse of the coin.
Each silver coin has been protectively slabbed and labelled using our ‘Sealed for Good’ technology. No air or dust will tarnish it, ensuring it can be treasured for generations. Plus, you will receive – at no additional charge – a wooden display case, custom-crafted to protect and showcase these exceptional issues. The case features a lock and key for additional security. A Certificate of Authenticity will also be included.
