Operation Chariot was one of the most daring Commando raids of the Second World War. Their mission – to wreck the massive dry dock at St Nazaire on the Atlantic coast. Its success denied the huge German battleships a home and was a major contribution to the Allies’ ultimate victory.

To honour the brave Commandos and the many that lost their lives in this mission, Danbury Mint presents… Commando!

•    Using expert guidance from our military historian, our craftsmen have successfully captured every detail. From the woollen cap, durable Demison Smock uniform and toggle rope attached to his Bergen rucksack to the 1937 webbing, Tommy gun and of course the Commando knife strapped to his leg.
•    A set of genuine 1942 coins – the year of the St Nazaire raid. This includes a Farthing, Halfpenny, Threepence, Sixpence and Shilling – all in gently circulated condition.
•    A specially-crafted hexagonal wooden base.
•    An exclusive commemorative medal. In raised relief, the front features a Commando and on the reverse are the words of Major General Corran Purdon, who took part in the raid: “I thought it was going to be a pretty dicey do, to be honest – but I never thought we wouldn’t do it.”

Actual size of sculpture is 12” tall.
