The Queen Elizabeth Proof Sovereign

In Stock
In 1985 the Royal Mint introduced a new portrait of Elizabeth II designed by sculptor, Raphael Maklouf. She is shown wearing the royal diadem which Her Majesty wore to and from the State Opening of Parliament, and unlike earlier portraits she is depicted wearing a necklace and earrings. Maklouf said his intention was to “to create a symbol, regal and ageless”.
If you look closely, you can see the artist’s initials, ‘RDM’, at the bottom of The Queen’s neck. The reverse of the coin features the classic design of St. George and the dragon by Benedetto Pistrucci.
The Royal Mint didn’t produce any bullion sovereigns with Maklouf’s portrait, so this Proof sovereign, made from 22ct gold, has been struck using specially-selected blanks and highly-polished dies to give a distinctive mirrored finish.
This highly sought-after coin comes encapsulated for its protection and sits within a finely-crafted wooden display, provided at no extra charge.
Display chest 5” x 3¾” x 1⅝”.
